Finding Your Perfect Home Near Winston-Salem: Exploring Kernersville, Lewisville, and Clemmons

If you're considering a move to the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area but prefer a slightly different pace of life, exploring the surrounding towns can offer the perfect balance. Joel Sandman recently provided an insightful video tour of three popular areas that combine close proximity to the city with unique living experiences: Kernersville, Lewisville, and Clemmons.

Kernersville: Small-Town Charm with Big City Access

Kernersville offers the quintessential small-town feel, complete with charming private shops and convenient free street parking [00:26]. Its strategic location provides excellent accessibility to major highways, making it a quick 15-minute drive to downtown Winston-Salem and just 20 minutes to downtown Greensboro.

    Kernersville presents two distinct personalities:

North Main Street: Exudes a quaint, traditional small-town atmosphere.

South Main Street: Offers more commercial opportunities, including big-box stores and fast-food options.

The town is rich in green spaces, boasting numerous parks like Triad Park and Civitan Park, which even features an exciting American Ninja Warrior course. Housing options are varied, with townhomes starting in the $200s-$300s and a wide array of single-family homes available in various subdivisions.

Lewisville: Serene Living with Stately Homes

Lewisville is characterized by a noticeably slower pace of life, featuring larger, more stately homes, sprawling farms, and generous plots of land [09:39]. This area is particularly appealing to those interested in horses or outdoor activities, with easy access to the Yadkin River.

The average home price in Lewisville is significantly higher, around $500,000, largely due to the presence of multi-million dollar equestrian estates. Shallowford Square serves as a central hub for outdoor events and festivals. While offering a peaceful retreat, Lewisville is still conveniently located about a 15-minute drive to downtown Winston-Salem.

New developments like Welden Ridge offer both townhomes and single-family homes, while exclusive neighborhoods such as Marin feature custom homes on expansive 1 to 5-acre lots, with prices ranging from $1.2 million to over $2 million.

Clemmons: Commercial Convenience and Diverse Housing

Clemmons, with a population of approximately 20,000, has a more commercialized feel compared to Kernersville or Lewisville [25:46]. Lewisville-Clemmons Road is bustling with numerous chain restaurants and shops, providing all necessary conveniences without frequent trips into Winston-Salem, though it can experience significant traffic during peak hours.

Housing options in Clemmons are diverse:

Older Homes: Communities like Clemmons West feature older, sprawling brick ranches, with prices ranging from $350,000 to $500,000.

Newer Construction: Developments like Cloud's Harbor offer newer homes starting around $400,000.

Clemmons spans both Forsyth and Davidson Counties, which can impact property taxes. It offers choices for both "village living" (with city sewer and public water) and "county living" (larger lots, septic systems, and potentially lower taxes). Like the other towns, it's about a 15-minute drive to downtown Winston-Salem.

Whether you're seeking small-town charm, serene rural living, or commercial convenience, these three areas near Winston-Salem offer compelling options for your next home.
