The Journey Into Competitive Golfing

My Return to Competitive Golf: More Than Just a Game

In this video, I share my journey back into competitive golf after a seven-year hiatus [00:00]. My first tournament didn't go exactly as planned, but it was a powerful reminder of the importance of a strong mental game and being more assertive in my thought process [00:11]. Playing on a wet course also presented its challenges, pushing me to refine my technique and avoid hitting the ball fat [00:20].

I'm Joel, with Berkshire Hathaway, and welcome to "Driving Triad" [00:50]! Golf runs deep in my family. All three of my brothers and I played on the same high school team [01:02]. My younger brother even earned a full ride to Notre Dame for golf, and my older brother played at a Division II school [01:13]. As for me, I spent over a decade as a PGA teaching professional and club pro [01:19].

While I might not be the best golfer out there, the competitive spirit of the game truly excites me [01:30]. Beyond the competition, golf has profoundly impacted my life. During my adolescence, when my own father traveled frequently, golf introduced me to a wonderful father figure in Joe Lasardi [01:35]. The sport has also connected me with incredible people, leading to lasting friendships and even real estate business opportunities [02:11].

I recently had the pleasure of playing with "Golf Jesus" (Jake Galladay), and it was a great example of how golf instantly creates connections through shared acquaintances [03:08]. My motivation for returning to competitive golf is simple: to see if I can still perform at a high level and, most importantly, to enjoy the camaraderie and competition [03:51].

Moving forward, you can expect more golf content in my videos, alongside our usual real estate discussions [04:23]. Get ready for more insights from the green, mixed with valuable real estate advice!

(The video features various shots of me playing golf on a course, including tee shots [03:03], bunker shots [00:11], and putting [00:43]. You'll also see me practicing my swing at a driving range [03:55].)
