The Hope Food Truck Company, Given Coffee, and their overarching program, Hopefuls Incorporated, are working tirelessly to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry.
From Food Truck Dream to Targeted Impact
The journey began in 2019 when Scott Newton, the visionary founder, received a food truck as a gift from a friend [01:01]. His initial concept was simple yet impactful, mirroring the "buy one, give one" model: for every meal sold, a free meal would be provided [01:20]. While the Hope Food Truck quickly gained popularity, even earning the title of "Triad's Best Food Truck" [01:38], Scott soon realized that only a fraction of the free meals were reaching those truly in need [02:00].
This crucial realization led to a pivotal shift in July 2022, when the focus narrowed to Hopefuls Incorporated, specifically targeting childhood hunger within public elementary schools [02:21].
Hopefuls: Nourishing Young Minds, One Meal at a Time
The Hopefuls program is a beacon of hope for vulnerable children. Currently, it serves 150 students across three public elementary schools in the Triad, providing essential dinner meals from Monday through Thursday [03:12].

Volunteer Power: Meals are meticulously packaged by dedicated volunteers in the church's kitchen.
Discreet Delivery: These nutritious meals are then discreetly delivered to schools and placed directly into students' book bags, ensuring privacy and dignity [04:08].
Wholesome Meals: Typical meals are designed to be balanced, including a protein, a vegetable, and a fruit. Popular kid-friendly options include chicken biscuits, sausage biscuits, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, and hot dogs [03:54].
Identifying Need: Schools play a crucial role in identifying students who would benefit most from the program, through close collaboration with principals, social workers, guidance counselors, and community in school directors [06:31].
