Golfing Paradise: A Trip to Southern Pines, North Carolina

For golf enthusiasts, a trip to Southern Pines, North Carolina, offers an unforgettable experience. Joel Sandman recently recounted his golf getaway with friends to this renowned destination, highlighting the excellent accommodations and challenging courses that make it a golfer's dream.

Ideal Accommodations for Group Getaways

Joel and his group of 12 opted for a spacious seven-bedroom villa located on the 10th fairway of Mid Pines [00:41]. This proved to be an ideal choice, providing ample space and a comfortable common living area with a pool table, perfect for group bonding [01:16]. While the villa didn't have a kitchen, the convenience of nearby restaurants and delivery services made mealtime a breeze [00:52].

A Trio of Challenging Courses

The group teed off at three distinct and highly regarded golf courses:

Southern Pines: Dating back to 1906 and renovated in 2020, Southern Pines is known for its demanding layout with tight fairways and intricate greens that test even the most skilled golfers [01:35].

Mid Pines: This course presented a good challenge from the back tees (around 6,500 yards) with visually intimidating tee shots. However, Joel found the greens to be fair yet difficult. He declared Mid Pines his favorite of the three, praising its beautiful scenery, rugged bunkering, and elevation changes that add to the golfing experience [02:05].

Pine Needles: The most famous of the trio, Pine Needles was designed in 1927 and underwent renovation around 2017. This par 71 course stretches over 7,000 yards, offering forgiving tee shots but notoriously difficult green complexes, especially when the greens are fast [02:55].

Beyond the Greens: Practice and Perks

Pine Needles also offers additional perks for resort guests, including a complimentary four-hole short course (comprising three par threes and a par four) [03:25]. Furthermore, its practice facilities are considered the best among the three courses, allowing golfers to hone their skills before hitting the links.

Joel highly recommends Mid Pines for golf enthusiasts, suggesting it as a more cost-effective alternative to the renowned Pinehurst Resort, while still delivering a comparable and exceptional golfing experience [04:16]. If you're planning a golf trip, Southern Pines, with its blend of challenging courses and comfortable accommodations, should definitely be on your radar!
